If you are looking for Malay food in KL then you must pop into the Songket Restaurant. In KL you can easily find Chinese Malaysian and Indian Malaysian food but you must dig deeper to find Malay Malaysian food. Songket offers this in a beautiful setting topped off with a traditional dance show. The food is delicious and well worth trying out. A good place too, to bring your visitors from abroad as this will give them a good introduction to Malaysian Culture.
Meaning of Songket is: "a hand-woven fabric in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads that stand out against the background cloth to create a shimmering effect" You can see some Songket in the photos being used as a table cloth!

ReplyDeleteYou are right Erika! It is hard to find Malay food (even in PJ!). When I am sick of Chinese food (as you know I am a Chinese ;-)) Malay food is one of my options. Thanks for introducing this restaurant. Will keep Songet in mind next time I have craving for some delicious Malay dishes :-D

Stephanie, You must try it out. I also had a celebration dinner last weekend at another Malay restaurant called Bijan. They have a very unique Durian Cheesecake.

ReplyDeleteI love Bak kut teh! It's one of my favourite food as well. Yes I would recommend it. Erika, have you been to the food court at Publika at Hartamas. The food court there has lots of really good local Chinese dishes/food - from yong tau foo to chicken rice. And bak kut teh :-D PS: Only thing is that I think the food there are non-halal.
