Calling all Austrians in Jakarta

Something bizarre happened to me when trying to use a landline phone to call my family and friends who are not on skype or WhatsApp, (yes I know but this is not the strange bit). The strange bit is I couldn't get through to any landline numbers in Austria/Europe.
It even took the local telephone company 3 hours to figure it out and here it is:

Outgoing dialing codes from Indonesia to Austria vary and here are just a sample of dialing codes:

Indonesia to Hong Kong:                      007852.....
Indonesia to Malaysia:                          00760........
Indonesia to UK                                    00744.......
Indonesia to Austrian mobile phone     007436......
Indonesia to Austrian landline              01017431..........

And if these do not work for you, we were advised to try 001 instead of 007.

Good Luck!

New to Jakarta.

Finding information in Jakarta can prove quite difficult for expats. Firstly a lot of information tends to be in Bahasa Indonesia and secondly so much information is passed on by word of mouth that at first viewing you would be forgiven for thinking that Jakarta has very little to offer.
The contrary is actually more accurate!
Once you get used to the traffic in Jakarta (if that is at all possible) you find you can spend your energy on exploring wonderful hidden gems in this city called the Big Durian.

Below I have added some links to some great websites that help you navigate this absolutely humongous metropolis.

Honey Combers Jakarta
Jakarta

Honey Combers' site is wonderful and has a spread of information from unique restaurants to co-working spaces.

Whats New Jakarta

Another very informative site is Whats New Jakarta. They have information on areas outside Jakarta too in their Travel section and great tips on how to entertain your kids in Jakarta.

There are various associations in Jakarta that you can become a member of. For ladies and mums there are some fabulous groups you can join such as:
Anza
AWA
BWA
WIC
Die Bruecke

and of course other associations belonging to different nationalities.
Contact details can be found by clicking on the above links, but be aware that you often must call to get the actual address as this is not often published for security reasons.

Explore all of these to get a better understanding on how to settle in Jakarta and you will meet one of the most friendliest and welcoming communities you are ever going to meet in the world.

Good Luck!

Are you Diabetic but still want to indulge in confectionery?

At last there is a great way to still enjoy your cakes and cookies without worrying about their sugar content. And yes you can get it in Kuala Lumpur and the products are still as delicious as if they had sugar!!
Passionate about giving people a little indulgence without consuming sugar, Ms Ivie has created her own recipes of cakes, cookies and delicious nut spreads.

You can find out more on her Facebook page: A Little Indulgence
 Enjoy and Bon Appetit!

You don't have to be diabetic to enjoy these products, in fact diabetes is a growing problem in Malaysia so it would be good for everyone to start eating less sugar now.

A huge eye-opener and very frightening discoveries are being made in research labs in the UK. It has been discovered that Diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's are linked.

Have a listen here to Prof John Todd's interview on BFM radio:
Dementia and Diabetes
